Coming out to play for Clarinet and Marimba [7:50]
This composition is evocative of imagery and story. The way I depicted this music is that, at first, there is the distance between the two instruments, and the clarinet seeks to close the distance and create interplay. In other words, the clarinet is trying to get the marimba to come out to play. The clarinet is both persistent and creative in this pursuit. It is inventive, earnest, and uses various persuasive ploys and enticements. The marimba is at first disinterested, but eventually responds, first in small ways, and then in more interested ways until the spatial distancing and separation is dissolved. Both instruments are fully involved with what the other is doing and are playing one game together.
